Have I ever mentioned how I am from one of the most beautiful places on earth?

Well, in case I haven't mentioned that before, I am.

Southern Utah rocks my socks off.

Here's why:

Note the biker above: wearing regular biking clothes. Not winterized biking clothes. WARM!

Consider my socks rocked. Because I love the red rock.
I'm rapping right now. If you couldn't tell.

Currently it is 61º and it's January 3. I may just go lay out by a pool.

Another cool thing about Southern Utah? No jacket was needed in January to shoot these. It's that awesome here!

For Christmas, I got some new camera equipment. I was maybe more of a Christmas, Birthday, Graduation and Favorite Daughter (hmm... sorry Amy) gift.

So... naturally, I dragged the sibs out. I've clearly got a lot to learn, but it's such a fantastic camera!

For the next few weeks, if anyone wants to come out and practice with me (aka, model), let me know! Think of all the fun we could have. Lots.

I'll be in St. George for another week or so, then back up to Orem.

Remember me? I used to take pictures all the time, then I decided that I needed to take the year off so I could focus on finishing school. I've missed it SO much - not school, photographing cool people like you. I've been working on a few things that I will be posting here soon!

A few weeks ago, I went down to St. George during a week off of school and was able to do Mason's senior pictures! Before this shoot, I was thinking of maybe not doing photography anymore. Thank goodness for this shoot and helping me realize that I never want to take a year break from photography again. Worst. Decision. Ever.

Here is Mason Moore. Mason is pretty cool. I mean, he plays Lacrosse! I feel like my life is that much more cool now that I know someone who plays Lacrosse. Mason also loves having his picture taken. I'm really glad that I was able to be apart of the highlight of his senior year of high school ;) And, how cool is it that he wore a TUX?!

If you have a positive attitude and think you can work it in front of the camera, I want to hear from you. This is a great opportunity to have your senior portraits done for FREE. Right now I feel like a 5 year old during the Holidays. I just can't wait for "Santa" to come!

{Cary & Carla Wedding} Provo, Utah Wedding Photographer

Remember Cary & Carla from when we did their engagements (if you forgot, click here!) Well, they got married this August and it was such a great wedding! While I was driving up to the Mount Timpanogos Temple, it was raining harder than I had ever seen in my entire life. I was so worried that none of their pictures would turn out and it was just got to be awful. Well, believe it or not, just minutes before they walked out of the Temple, it stopped raining. Not only did it stop raining, but it turned into one of the most beautiful days!

Their reception was held up Provo Canyon at Timpanogos Park. It was such an awesome reception. They had no line (yes!), had backyard games (boccie ball, croquet etc.), great food and the couple just went around and mingled with everyone.

Some people have requested that I share more photos from each session. So, starting this post, there are SO many photos for you to view! So that means more comments from you!

New Logo!

Many of you are probably SO sick of hearing about this. My new logo. I've seriously been SO excited about it, it's probably pathetic. But lets face it, a first logo in starting a business is a pretty big deal :)

My friend Molly (check out her stuff here! She's really great) made the logo for me and I just LOVE it!

I have it in a few colors, but I'll show you the black one so there is still some sort of surprise when my WEBSITE (coming VERY soon) is finished!

Carla moved to Germany just months after they started dating, but they continued their relationship through-out her stay across the world. This past month, I was in over my head. I was one of the people in charge of my high school reunion, I did the Relay for Life and was the team captain for that, and my work moved offices. ALL IN THE SAME WEEKEND! So... there was a lot of prep before that weekend and once the weekend was over, I slept. A lot. But don't worry, because I was able to sleep at the beach and next to the pool for 3 days. But I can't prove it to you because my mind was so flustered while packing that I FORGOT MY CAMERA! And I call myself a photographer...

Well anyways, the other day I saw the quote "Focus on being productive instead of busy." I'd like to think that I was being productive the past month....

Meet Jenson.

I said I would post more of these, so here we go.

For one of my photography classes at school, our final project was to do whatever we wanted. The only requirement was that we had to have a goal and accomplish that goal through our photographs. My favorite thing to photography is people and their emotions. It's great and lots of times completely hilarious. I decided that I would do something that I don't usually do and step out of my "people" comfort zone. I chose Temples. I didn't really know what my "goal" would be, so I just said that it was to give a unique/different perspective on a photograph of a temple.

The way it was presented was in a book. It was titled "In the Top of the Mountains..." (from a scripture in the bible found in Isaiah 2:2). Also in the book I gave a description of what Temples were all about (thank you mormon.org - and yes I cited it).

So here is a glimpse of what my book was.

The Purpose of Temples (mormon.org)

The Lord has commanded His people to build temples. One such command was directed to Solomon, who proceeded to build a house of the Lord and the most sacred structure on earth. Earlier, the Israelite’s tabernacle in the wilderness served as a temple, and there was a temple in the time of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus Christ restored His Church through Joseph Smith, He again directed that temples be built. In the temple, sacred covenants are made and worthy members are endowed with a gift of power and knowledge from on high.
In the more than 100 holy temples worldwide today, members:

- Learn eternal truths.
- Receive sacred ordinances, including those that bind husband and wife together for eternity, as well as join
children and parents ( Malachi 4:5).
- Perform ordinances such as baptism in behalf of those who have died without the opportunity to receive the
gospel, making it possible for those who choose to accept them to return to live one day with Heavenly Father
(1 Peter 4:6 and 1 Corinthians 15:29).

Visitors are welcome to visit the temple grounds at any temple and attend open houses prior to dedication, thereafter only baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are qualified and prepared are allowed to enter a temple after it is dedicated.

The Day I Finally Fell In Love With Utah

So it took 15 years to finally appreciate all the beautiful things we have here in Utah. I've never been a huge fan of Northern Utah's landscape. I think this may be due to my obsession I have with Southern Utah's red rock and all the wonderful colors there are down there. I also think this is due to the face that it snows in Northern Utah, and that is not okay by me. However, a few weeks ago, a friend and I got up early (way too early...) to drive the Alpine Loop and try and get some last minute "Fall" pictures. For those of you who don't know what the Alpine Loop is, it's just past Sundance Ski Resort. It goes from Provo Canyon around to American Fork Canyon. It's a really pretty drive.

I was amazed at the beauty that surrounded me all morning. I could not get over it. Although I still love my red rock in Southern Utah, I am now in love with the beautiful mountains in Northern Utah. It took me 15 years to finally do so.

Goodbye Summer

In my Photography class at school, we went out and did a shoot on Center Street in Provo. Since I love flowers, I had to catch a shot of this flower before all the pretty flowers leave us.

I'm still trying to fix/figure out why the pictures aren't loading how they really appear - all the colors are dull, and the quality isn't very good. Does anyone have an idea as to how to fix this? I use picasa as my host for my images.

Kristi and Giselle are roommates and are the cutest girls. They asked me if I could get some shots for them for some upcoming adventures the are about to embark on. Kristi (pictured first) is a student at BYU studying Travel and Tourism and plans on not only traveling the world, but becoming best friends with a certain "rocker" this coming week while in Idaho. (He may or may not be named David Cook...) Giselle (pictured second) is studying English Lit. at UVU, and will soon become the next Stephanie Myer. She is currently working on a romantic comedy featuring none other than yours truly.

Alex and the Ukulele

A few weeks ago we went out and got some shots of Alex. He is getting ready to join a Modeling Agency and needed some shots to take in. Alex also loves to play the Ukulele and is good at it! Sarah Richard's Missionary Pictures

Sarah is going to the Houston Texas South - Spanish Speaking Mission. She reports to the MTC in October. Sarah has been attending BYU working towards a degree in Social Work. She is so compassionate and will be a wonderful missionary!

ANYways... my camera was left in St. George for 2 whole weeks, and that is why I have not been blogging for a while. Before they met, Abe had always said he'd never date a nanny. Grace had always said she'd never date someone from Washington (long story...) Well, Grace is a nanny, and Abe is from Washington - so of course it was going to work out perfectly. Grace and Abe met out in New York. Grace went out east to be a Nanny, and Abe (from Washington) was attending West Point Military Academy. They attended the same singles ward, which to Abe's 'delight' had several Nanny's attending. Grace however caught his eye and the rest is history!

Grace and Abe were married yesterday in the SLC Temple. When I was driving up to SLC, it was raining so I was somewhat worried about how the pictures were going to turn out. However, by the time I got there, it was not raining. In fact, it was so hot we were all cursing the heat (nicely of course).

This is just a short preview of what is to come of their pictures.

Grace and Abe truly make a perfect couple and I am SO happy for them!

Evan and Layne two of my cousins. I've gotten to know them quite a bit since I have lived in Provo - they both go to BYU. We also went to Mexico together for a service trip during Thanksgiving break this past year. While at BYU, they each submitted their mission papers. Although they were called to different missions, they were assigned to enter the MTC on the SAME DAY - SAME TIME! Isn't this great? We think so.

We were able to get some quick "Missionary Photos" the night before the left. Here are a few of my favorites!

Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll

The first weekend of every month, Provo has a "Gallery Stroll". All the Art Galleries in Provo are open, and the artists are at each gallery for you to meet and view their work.

This month, I have 3 pieces in a gallery. It is in the Store Front Gallery on 250 W Center Street in Provo. They will be up for the entire month of June and you can view them anytime.

It's a great fun, free and cultural activity! There are many great artists from the community that would love you all to view their work!

Taber, Alberta, Canada is on my my favorite places in the ENTIRE world. I'm not sure why really because there isn't a lot there. But I seriously love it. I usually look forward to Taber more than I do Calgary when I go to Canada. This time around was about equal excitement for each place though... Again in Taber, I mostly shot with just my 35 mm film camera. I still don't know what my issue was with not getting out the digital. However I did shoot quite a bit more in Taber. Here are a few of my favorites.

I went up to Canada a few weeks ago and it was great. I wanted to go downtown and get some shots so one of my friends showed me around the city. I was completely out of it that day in every way possible so nothing turned out the way I wanted and I hardly shot anything. And with only one camera. WHAT WAS I THINKING? I don't know. I guess I'll have to go back soon!

Meet Marci, a.k.a. Party Porter. One day I got home from class and had a sudden urge to go take pictures. So Marci willingly obliged and got all dolled up. We headed up to the Provo Temple to take pictures. You would not guess that location by this first image I posted (black and white). But I really really love the image. It shows a side of Marci that no one ever sees because... well she doesn't have a dark and creepy side. So maybe we can call it her seductive side... But I still love it. I had to add the jumping picture because jumping picture = Marci. No matter where she is, there is always a jumping picture. Kennedy and Kristi can attest to this, and I'm sure everyone else who knows her can as well!

The First Ever

I have come to appreciate my friends a ton in my photography. A lot of what I have been able to do is because a friend of a friend refers another friend back to me. And all crazy things.

My first "professional" shoot was an engagement session. I had never met the couple before which made me a little nervous that they were trusting ME, someone that hadn't done anything before for their pictures. Darrin (the groom) worked with one of my friends roommates. She (my friends roommate) saw some stuff I did through good ol' facebook and told Darrin about it.

So... because it was my first I will only post very few of what we did that day. They look great, but as for me and my skills, I feel that I have gotten quite a bit better since this shoot.

The First Ever continued

I saw Darrin and Cari in the mall a few weeks ago so it reminded me to post some of the stuff I did with them.

This was my first "professional" bridal shoot I ever did. It was last summer. I had done her engagements and then she asked me to do her bridal photos which I was really excited to do. Bridals are now one of my favorite shoots to do!

Cari got ready at one of her friends house and ended up forgetting to pack some fancy shoes to wear. She borrowed a pair of her friends (the yellow ones) which luckily was one of her colors she chose for her wedding. The image with the flowers and shoes is one of my favorites from the shoot. Funny how weird things work out like that.

I met Sarah when I lived over by BYU. Sarah has a personality that is so great, people love to be around her. She wanted some shots done of herself just for fun! And I thought she would be so fun to photograph so it ended up being a win-win situation! So on a blistering cold Saturday afternoon, we found some fun locations in Provo and embraced the cold.
My favorite part about her photographs are her eyes. The way she connects with the camera really pulls me into each photograph. It is really intriguing!

This past week I was able to go to Canada! It was so fun to see family and friends that I hadn't seen in quite a while. We went up for my Grandpa's surprise 80th birthday! All his kids were there together - all at once - which hasn't happened in so long. Needless to say, he was pretty excited.

The main thing on my agenda while on my trip was to take some sweet photos. One morning while in Taber, my mom woke up with me early so I could go photograph my grandpas farm and other way cool things there. It was really nice because not many people or animals were up yet so it was very quiet and relaxing to photograph. My mom came with me to be my scribe (write down all my exposures and zone changes to save time). I got some really fun images that I am really excited to play around with!
Then, while in Calgary, my dad took me out late one night so I could get a night shot of the city scape. I love these types of photographs. We didn't go to my favorite view of the city so i'll do that one next time. Sadly, when I took the same shot with my 35 mm film camera, I under-exposed it. So there isn't a whole lot of information on the film. I thought a 5 minute exposure would for sure be over-exposing it. You most likely have no idea what I'm talking about.... But I was just lucky to have my dad take me so i didn't get lost in a crazy part of Calgary.

I will scan in some of my negatives and post more photos of beautiful Canada another time.

I love to see the Temple

The St. George Temple is my favorite temple by far. Okay, I may be bias because it's where I'm from but I still think it's one of the prettiest. Once I moved away from home and out of St. George, I wanted a picture of the temple to put in my room. All the ones I saw at Deseret Book I wasn't a huge fan of. It finally dawned on me that I had the means to create my own image have it be how I wanted it to look. I don't know why it took me that long to figure that out. So one trip home, I went and photographed the temple just as the sun was going down and this is what I came up with. It was my parents Christmas gift this year. Since they have it up in their house, it's great exposure and advertising for me which is working out great! Their home teacher is the manager of Deseret Book and he wants to sell it in his store!!! So I just have to get it ready to be presented to all of their approval committees and hope all goes well with them. I'm crossing my fingers! Also, I used this image for my first "art" competition held at school. There are a lot of other great shots submitted as well from other photographers, so I will have to wait and see if mine makes the cut!

My sister had been dying to get me to do her pics, but we never could because I don't live in St. George anymore :(. So during Christmas break, her and her friend got all dressed up and we went and got some fun images of them. They were so excited to get them back to show all their friends. When I went to burn them a CD of all their images, all the edited images had disappeared. GONE. So I am now starting over because I can't find them. So here is what I've done so far with a few of them. Hopefully next time I go to burn their CD, they are still where I put them!

Gracie Lou

I met Grace when I first moved up to Provo. We met one night out by the pool of our apartment complex and neither of us knew anyone. We started talking and became really good friends that summer. In August, she moved to New York to be a nanny. The singles ward she attends is the same ward that the guys from West Point (the military academy) go to. Needless to say, she met a guy that is attending West Point and they are now engaged!

While she was still in Provo, we had fun one afternoon getting all dressed up and got some really fun images. I guess she really liked them because she has asked me to photograph her wedding in July. Luckily it is not my first wedding I photograph so I've already learned so much I can improve on this time around. And with Grace as the bride, we are bound to get some amazing images! I'll be sure to post some of them after the wedding!
