Spiderman

This week our family was hit with some unwanted news with Devin. It looks as though he has cancer again. We are all devastated. Devin and his brothers (and his parents) are some of my most cherished people and I love them all dearly. Devin is so lucky to have such great brothers and parents who love him so much. My prayers are with Devin and his family as they move forward with this new trial.

Miss Megan

Meet Megan. I met Megan in a photography class at school last year. She needed a recent picture for her Grandmother, so we went out and got some cute shots!

New favorite photo location too... Behind Gurus on Center Street in Provo. We were there along with 2 other photographers so it's a pretty hip place!

Enjoy - and don't forget those comments you love to leave!

Sixth graders know everything

I have a co-worker whose wife is an elementary school teacher teaching 6th grade. Apparently sixth graders are really smart. He told us a story the other day that is maybe the funniest thing I have ever heard. It went a little something like this:

After grading some papers that the students had written, Mrs. Greer (the
teacher) pulled a particular male student aside. She was explaining to him
that while writing papers, it's helpful for the reader if the writer uses
paragraphs instead of the whole paper being one large paragraph. The students response was {insert serious, know-it all tone here} "Mrs. Greer, I've been writing papers for 5 years now, and this is the first time I've heard anything about paragraphs."

Is that not the funniest thing?

I LOVE fall!

Check out my photo blog for a new "Fall" post!

Hope you enjoy!

The Day I Finally Fell In Love With Utah

So it took 15 years to finally appreciate all the beautiful things we have here in Utah. I've never been a huge fan of Northern Utah's landscape. I think this may be due to my obsession I have with Southern Utah's red rock and all the wonderful colors there are down there. I also think this is due to the face that it snows in Northern Utah, and that is not okay by me. However, a few weeks ago, a friend and I got up early (way too early...) to drive the Alpine Loop and try and get some last minute "Fall" pictures. For those of you who don't know what the Alpine Loop is, it's just past Sundance Ski Resort. It goes from Provo Canyon around to American Fork Canyon. It's a really pretty drive.
I was amazed at the beauty that surrounded me all morning. I could not get over it. Although I still love my red rock in Southern Utah, I am now in love with the beautiful mountains in Northern Utah. It took me 15 years to finally do so.

Here are my favorite images from the drive - Enjoy!

And don't forget to leave comments! I want to hear what you all think!

Goodbye Summer

In my Photography class at school, we went out and did a shoot on Center Street in Provo. Since I love flowers, I had to catch a shot of this flower before all the pretty flowers leave us.

I'm still trying to fix/figure out why the pictures aren't loading how they really appear - all the colors are dull, and the quality isn't very good. Does anyone have an idea as to how to fix this? I use picasa as my host for my images.

Donation Slips

My friend Colin and I have started going to the library to study together. We always tease each other because he goes to BYU and I go to UVU. It's kind of funny - I tease people that go to BYU because some people that go there are ridiculous (not the names mentioned here) and so it makes it very easy to laugh about. I always say BYU is one huge bubble. I think it's a great school - just a huge bubble. Then when it comes to Colin teasing me about UVU, he always seems somewhat nervous about following through with his remarks. I can always tell when he's going to say a UVU remark because he'll start off, and then say "oh, nevermind" and turn a slight shade of red. And I'll just say "spit out the UVU talk...". It's quite funny to hear BYUers talk about UVU - and UVUers talk about BYU. Anyways...

Here's the real part of my blog post:

The first "library evening", we went to the BYU library. It's a very quiet place if you haven't been there. Like a library should probably be. We were in the periodicals section. I guess this is the area where if you want to get asked out on a date, you should go. I was fine with my BYU library experience - a little "bubble" shocked, but it's starting to die down. I had to do a few double takes to make sure I was seeing what I was really seeing, but we do that at UVU too - just in the complete opposite realm of things.

The second library experience happened tonight at the UVU library. Now, I was nervous about Colin being out of the BYU scene. It was a little out of his comfort zone. Before we got to the library, we stopped at the gas station next to campus (I tend to get thirsty while in the library, so to avoid 47 trips to the drinking fountain, I buy one) and while we were there we saw a group of high school children smoking. Colin says "there's a gas station at the south of [BYU] campus, and we see quite a different crowd there." This comment was quite great. The first of many to come in the evening.

When we arrived at the library, I told him he may see things he has never seen before, such as colored hair, facial hair, tatoos etc (we only saw yellow feathers sticking in a girls hair unfortunately). We got up to our study area, and it's very vacant compared to BYU - I guess we aren't as studious as they are? There may have been mild reference made about that. We sat next to a table who had a man who chose to talk on his cell phone for about 10 minutes. This really upset Colin (maybe surprised/bugged/shocked is a better word/words). He kept making faces at him, then once the man saw him, he left. Another interruption was made by the custodial personnel. They decided that it was time to vacuum the entire library while we were still there. I too thought this was a little weird. This was when the comment, "I guess they don't do the early to bed, early to rise custodial concept here" came. I guess at BYU, they go early in the morning to clean.

Despite his claims of not feeling so, I could tell during the evening that Colin felt a little uncomfortable to be in a non-dedicated place of study. However, he made my worries disappear when we were driving out of the parking lot/passing the institute building when he said "I felt safe while in the library, because I could look out the windows and see the institute building"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha - this is the greatest thing I have ever heard. I think you had to be there maybe, or you have to understand our humor/friendship to understand how funny this was. It seriously was great.

For those of you reading this and know Colin, maybe you can understand how funny this was? Or maybe it wasn't that funny, and I am just crazy. It could be either.

Anyways...

GO BYU
Go UVU

I also wanted to mention - did you know that slips you write on while making a donation to a charity are called Donation Slips? They have official names.

Kristi & Giselle {Sneak Peak}

Kristi and Giselle are roommates and are the cutest girls. They asked me if I could get some shots for them for some upcoming adventures the are about to embark on. Kristi (pictured first) is a student at BYU studying Travel and Tourism and plans on not only traveling the world, but becoming best friends with a certain "rocker" this coming week while in Idaho. (He may or may not be named David Cook...) Giselle (pictured second) is studying English Lit. at UVU, and will soon become the next Stephanie Myer. She is currently working on a romantic comedy featuring none other than yours truly.

Enjoy the preview of their marvelous shoot. More images to come!

And... don't forget to leave your inspiring comments at the bottom of the post :)

Alex and the Ukulele

A few weeks ago we went out and got some shots of Alex. He is getting ready to join a Modeling Agency and needed some shots to take in. Alex also loves to play the Ukulele and is good at it! If you ever go to open mic night at Muse, you've probably heard him play as he is a frequent performer there. In case you haven't been yet, you should go check it out (I still need to...). But I hear it's great! Enjoy the first glimpse of Alex as I'm sure we'll see more of him in the future with his up-coming gigs!

Don't Mess With Texas

Sarah Richard's Missionary Pictures

Sarah is going to the
Houston Texas South - Spanish Speaking Mission. She reports to the MTC in October. Sarah has been attending BYU working towards a degree in Social Work. She is so compassionate and will be a wonderful missionary!

We were able to get some fun missionary photos shot earlier tonight. After all the "serious" mission photos, we got some fun photos with her in her "Don't Mess With Texas" outfit! Enjoy the photos and wish Sarah good luck on her upcoming adventures in Texas!

Robyn - Senior Portraits

Last night we went out and shot Robyn's Senior Pictures. Robyn is graduating for American Fork High this coming year. After high school, she plans on becoming a Dental Hygienist and studying at either Weber or Utah Valley (I'm crossing my fingers for UVU). Robyn is GORGEOUS! We got to go to mostly all new locations for me, so it was a lot of fun to try new things! Good luck Robyn surviving your last year of high school! It does end... Promise!

"Ladies Love Country Boys"

I think for this one, I'll let Trace Adkins tell it how it is...

Ladies Love Country Boys
by Trace Adkins

"...Yeah, you know mama's and daddy's want better for their daughters
Hope they'll settle down with a doctor or a lawyer and
their uptown, ball gown, hand-me-down royalty.
They never understand why their princess falls
for some camouflage britches and a southern boy drawl.

Or why she's ridin' in the middle of his pick-up truck,
blarin' Hank Jr. yellin' "Turn it up!"
They raised her up a lady,
but there's one thing they couldn't avoid.
Ladies love country boys.

You can train 'em.
You can try to teach 'em right from wrong,
But it's still gonna turn 'em on..."

Watch - out - Texas

Sarah received her mission call to Texas so get ready for some awesome Missionary Pictures! We will be shooting them next week, so check back then!

Today I was going through some images from a long time ago. I started playing with some that I didn't like in color and changed them to B&W. I love love LOVE this image. I have had some images of Cari on here before from a year ago when we shot her Bridals. Thanks again Cari for having me do your Bridals!

(Today, I also FINALLY figured out how to make my images bigger without them being pixelated.
SO I had to upload a photo to try it out!)

Grace + Abe Reception

Here is my favorite image from the reception. I'm not sure why, but the colors aren't showing up as they really are. So that is something else I need to learn more about on blogger. ANYways... my camera was left in St. George for 2 whole weeks, and that is why I have not been blogging for a while. The memory card that had their images from the reception was still in my camera bag, so I just barely got to see them all last night! I'm so happy with how they turned out!
